[Aug 30, 2012] NEW PUBLICATION ON FAIRNESS AND SUSTAINABILITY OF PENSION
SYSTEMS IN EAST AND SOUTHEAST ASIA
ADB has published a book, which gathered 8 papers for 8 East and
Southeast Asian countries, on pension systems' fairness and sustainability
issues.
These issues are in great concern in all countries under various pressures from
aging population and/or PAYG design.

NEW POSITION AS AFFILIATE RESEARCH FELLOW...
The Oxford
Institute of Population Ageing (OIPA)
has accepted me as an Affiliate Research Fellow. I was a visiting
research fellow there in 2005 under Leslie Kirkley Fellowship. This is a
really great honor.

NEW PUBLICATION BY ADB ON SOCIAL PENSIONS IN ASIA
ADB just published a book on social pensions (or cash transfers) for
older people in Asia. I contributed a co-authored paper to this book.

[July 14, 2012] CROSS-COUNTRY MEETNG ON AGING SURVEYS
On 29-30 Aug. 2012, VNAS team will participate in a cross-country
meeting to discuss and share experiences on aging/older people surveys
with Thailand and Myanmar. The meeting will be held at Chulalongkorn
Univ. in Thailand.
[June 19, 2012] SHARING EXPERIENCES ON AGING SURVEY
On 12 July I will share issues of aging population and experiences in
conducting national survey on older people with University of Malaya's
research team for Malaysian Elderly Longitudinal Study (MELoR). This is
cross-country meeting on aging and older people's issues.
[June 10, 2012] INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON AGING IN MALAYSIA
On 11 July 2012 I will present a paper on aging population and its
policy issues in Vietnam at an international conference on aging in KL,
Malaysia. This conference is held by University of Malaya in
collaboration with Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.
[May 18 2012] SOUTHEAST ASIAN FORUM ON SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC GROWTH
On 29-30 May 2012, a Regional Forum on Economic Growth will be held in
Hanoi. Together with UNFPA Vietnam's national representative, I am
invited to discuss about the impacts of demographic bonus and aging on
economic growth in Vietnam. They are two key demographic trends which
are going together in Vietnam now.
[May 05 2012] HAI REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON SOCIAL CARE FOR OLDER PEOPLE
From 8 to 12 May 2012 I will participate in the Regional Conference of
HelpAge International (HAI) in Yangon, Myanmar to present social care
needs for older people in Vietnam and Indonesia. This is a regional
conference where a number of researchers, policy makers and NGO
practitioners will share their experiences.
[May 04, 2012] VNAS DISSEMINATION WAS SUCCESSFUL
Today at Melia Hotel, Hanoi, VNAS official dissemination was successful
with active participation of about 100 people from different domestic
and international organizations.
[Apr 21, 2012] OFFICIAL DISSEMINATION OF VIETNAM NATIONAL AGING SURVEY
On 4 May 2012 at Melia Hotel, the research team for Vietnam National
Aging Survey (VNAS) will officially disseminate findings of the survey.
This is the first-ever nationally representative survey on older people
in Vietnam. It has been completed by
IRC,
ISMS under Vietnam Women Union with financial support from
Atlantic Philanthropies (AP). I am PI for this survey.
[Apr 17, 2012] REPORT ON SOCIAL ASSISTANCE AT NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OFFICE
On 14 April 2012, I participated in the regular meeting of NA Office's
Committee for Social Affairs to make comments on Minister of MoLISA's
report on social assistance. This is an important pillar of social
protection system in Vietnam, given a number of socio-economic and
health changes in recent years.
[Mar 30, 2012] TNP2K SEMINAR ON ELDERLY POVERTY AND SOCIAL PROTECTION
On 3 April 2012, together with research team members commissioned by
TNP2K (Poverty Reduction Unit of Vice President Office, Indonesia) I
will present a section on poverty analysis for the older people in
Indonesia. This will be mid-term report of a research project at Univ.
of Indonesia.
[Mar 16, 2012] IPPM 8th SEMINAR ON POLICY
IPPM invited Dr Yasuhiro Kamimura from Nagoya University to share his
research on informal sector employment in East Asian countries. A number
of issues comparing countries were presented and discussed, especially
those like Vietnam with huge informal sector. More

[Feb 23, 2012] VNAS TEAM MEETING WITH AHP ON ELDERLY CARE RESEARCH
On 23 Feb. 2012, the research team of Vietnam National Aging Survey (VNAS)
met with a Japanese representative of Asian Human Network (AHP) to
discuss about elderly care issues in Vietnam. These are important policy
issues, given Vietnam is going to 'aging' phase with an increasing
demand for care of the aged.
[Feb 20, 2012] IPPM WORKING WITH VAE ON ELDERLY'S HEALTH ISSUES
Under Toyota Research Grant 2012-2013, IPPM is working with Vietnam
Association for the Elderly (VAE) in exploring health status and access
to health care services for the elderly in rural areas. A survey with a
sample of 1,200 older persons will be conducted in coming months.
[Feb 17, 2012] IPPM RESEARCH SEMINAR NO. 7 ON 16 FEB.
On
16 Feb. IPPM held a seminar to share Korea's experiences in 'new rural
policy'. Participants were from different organizations to join and
discuss various questions with implications for Vietnam.
[Feb 7, 2012] SOCIAL ASSISTANCE NEEDS FOR
VULNERABLE AND POOR INDONESIAN OLDER PEOPLE
Under HelpAge International work, I have been invited by Demographic
Insitute at the University of Indonesia to work with its research team
on evaluating elderly poverty and social assistance needs. This project
is a multi-disciplinary research on the elderly population and aging in
Indonesia.
[Jan 11, 2012] VIETNAM NATIONAL AGING SURVEY (VNAS) PRELIMINARY FINDINGS
On 10 January at Bao Son Hotel, Hanoi, VNAS research team present
preliminary findings from the first-ever nationally representative
survey on the elderly in Vietnam. The official dissemination seminar
will be held in late April 2012. |
